The City of Gold Coast has strengthened its relationship with Japan’s Kanagawa Prefecture, signing a new agreement that will facilitate knowledge-sharing and help establish the region’s first professional lifeguard service.
The city’s Lifeguard Service and the Kanagawa Lifesaving Association signed a Memorandum of Understanding during a recent visit to Japan. The MoU builds on a Friendship Agreement that has connected the two regions since 1990. Kanagawa Lifesaving Association president Yuki Shirai said the new agreement further strengthened the long-standing relationship. “Our ultimate goal is achieving zero water-related accidents in Kanagawa,” Mr Shirai said.
